Mid-Stream Urine (MSU)
Clean catch urine (for infants)
Pad urine (for infants if above 2 options not possible)
Red top urine tube with boric acid if volume is 10ml or more
White top sterile universal if volume is <10ml (in this case, please aim to get urine to the laboratory within 4 hours of collection), and accepted for patients aged 10 and under.

Search for: ‘Urine MC&S‘ or test code ‘LAB348‘

For CMV testing in neonates, send a white top plain sterile universal.
Microscopy & Culture
Tested at RD&E
Reports on negative specimens are available within 24 hours
Reports on positive specimens are available at 72 hours
Urgent Microscopy is available on request during routine working hours. Please contact the laboratory if this is required.
