Test Usage

Antinuclear antibodies are present at high titre in SLE and other connective tissue diseases, and at lower titre in rheumatoid arthritis, other autoimmune diseases and in 10% of normal elderly. A homogenous pattern is associated with dsDNA antibodies, while a speckled pattern is associated with antibodies to extractable nuclear antigens (ENA). The laboratory will automatically perform dsDNA and ENA antibodies where appropriate.
