Haematopoietic Progenitor Cell (HPC) Count

Test Usage

To enumerate HPC cells in peripheral blood as a marker for stem cells, indicating whether or not peripheral blood stem cell harvest (PBSCH) should proceed.

Specimen

Whole blood EDTA tube

Minimum sample volume

260 uL

 Special Instructions

HPC testing is only performed in cases of pre-planned peripheral blood stem cell harvests.

Factors affecting results

Clotted or underfilled samples can not be tested.

Reference Ranges

An HPC count of ≥30 cells/μL indicates that PBSCH can proceed without requirement for a CD34 count.

An HPC count of <30 cells/μL indicates that confirmatory CD34 analysis is required prior to commencing PBSCH.

Turnaround time

<1 hr – All samples are treated as Urgent
