Test Usage

Indicated for the diagnosis of Bird Fanciers Lung or other forms of hypersensitivity pneumonitis (HP) caused by inhalation of bird antigens.

Specimen

Blood sample (serum)

Minimum volume 2ml

Specimen container

Gold top clotted (5ml)

(Blood in tubes containing anticoagulants are not suitable for this test.)

Additional information

Results are returned as mg per litre (mg/L) and range from <2.0 to >200. Levels of antibody 10mg/L or above for pigeon serum or 8.0mg/L or above for budgie serum are considered significant and suggest that the aetiology of the patients HP is inhalation of bird antigens.
