Test Usage

The direct assay for urine Myoglobin has now been withdrawn. We recommend that if Myoglobinuria is suspected, a urine dipstick is used. If the pad for Haemoglobin is negative then Myoglobinuria can be ruled out.

If the pad is positive we recommend that a S Creatine Kinase is requested. In cases of Myoglobinuria following rhabdomyolysis the CK will be raised. This would indirectly confirm the presence of Myoglobinuria
