NMDAR antibody was first found in young female patients with ovarian tumours & prominent psychiatric symptoms, amnesia, seizures, dyskinesias, autonomic dysfunction & decreased level of consciousness. The antibodies are now also found in males or females with no known tumour, & in children. Their presence suggests an immunotherapy-responsive condition.
