Screening in first trimester of pregnancy
For electronic requesting using EPIC (RDUH ONLY):
Search for: ‘First Trimester Serology Screen‘ or test code ‘LAB701‘
Serology testing for:
Blood sample (serum)
Gold top clotted (5ml)
It should be clearly documented in the woman’s handheld notes which tests have been offered / discussed and that written information has been given
If any tests declined this should be clearly documented – otherwise the laboratory will perform all tests routinely.
Requests must indicate if a specimen is high risk. Please indicate details of the risk e.g. TB, MPox, Viral Haemorrhagic Fever.

2 days (compliant with IDSPS guidelines)
D/W Consultant Microbiologist if an unscreened woman presents late in pregnancy or in labour. Urgent out-of-hours testing is offered in high risk groups in order that appropriate treatment with prophylaxis can be offered to the infant.
